Nestled on the banks of Duffins Creek in the hamlet of Greenwood, Ontario, Pickering Museum Village delivers unique heritage programming for visitors of all ages. This living history village features 19 heritage buildings, with historically accurate gardens and an orchard, in beautiful rural Pickering, telling the story of Pickering’s settlement and development from earliest European arrival to 1910.

Pickering Museum Village excels at unique, hands-on, multisensory heritage experiences. “History in Action Saturdays” every week in July and August highlight different activities that encourage guests of all ages to step into the past. Themes range from baking contests (you’re the judge) and interactive theatrical vignettes, to traditional settler work “bees” (work parties) and the Amazing Pioneer Race filled with timed challenges. Without question, the highlight of the summer will be the two Museum Minecraft Saturdays, where families can come and work through tasks that bring the popular computer game off the screen and into real life!

Looking for something artful for children? Kids in the Village, every Thursday morning offers an hour of pioneer games followed by a heritage inspired craft. Or perhaps parents want to encourage their children to explore a pioneer museum in a different, and more intimate way. History Mystery Kits can be checked out at the front desk, and are filled with themed activities, ranging from a self-discovery geocaching quest, to solving a crime while taking at tour of the Museum Village.

For adults who want to travel back in time and enjoy a culinary experience, book into a Summer Solstice or Harvest Supper, and experience an intimate dining experience with a theatrical experience you’ll remember for years.
