Iconic Mexican singer Luis Miguel, known in the Latin world as “El Sol de México” (The Mexican Sun) made a stopover in Toronto this past Thursday, bringing his “México Por Siempre” (Mexico Forever) Tour to the Budweiser Stage. In this 22-date tour, with two stops in Canadian soil, the 48-year-old controversial singer kicked off the night by performing some of the best known songs from his extensive musical repertoire, to the delight of his adoring fans who sang along song after song without missing a beat. After all, Luis Miguel has been winning audiences’ hearts and admiration with his incredible voice since he was a child. Almost 4 decades later, his voice is better than ever, and that performing style that has invariably enthralled many a fan over the years is still working its magic, as it’s done time after time with every album he’s ever released. Romance, awe and devotion were alive and well Thursday night in our city.

Halfway through the show, the romance gave way to jubilation and joy, as Mariachi Vargas joined the crooner to perform songs from his most recent studio album “México Por Siempre”. The crowd loved every minute of it and the singer himself seemed to be right in his element, singing as beautifully as only he can do and smiling ear to ear, enjoying the love of his fans and his musical interaction with them. The show was a two hour feat of an incredible musical journey that brought Latinos in the city together, singing along to some of the most beautiful melodies that have ever been written in the Spanish language. Luis Miguel shone bright in the Toronto night. Like a good wine, he keeps getting better and better as a singer and performer. It feels like the Frank Sinatra of the Latin world is just getting started and he’s on his way to perfecting a more sophisticated and mature performing style.
