Welcome to our very first Podcast! For this groundbreaking occasion, and seeing how our city– Toronto The Good– has been hurting with unprecedented violence and horrific never-before-seen acts, we were lucky enough to have two people from two wonderful organizations that are helping Toronto and Durham Region residents deal with the aftermath and the traumatic remnants of these terrible incidents. Jasmin Guillén is a Crisis Counsellor with Victim Services in Toronto. Alma Latina Online Magazine’s Publisher, Alma Sandoval, had a very insightful phone conversation with her prior to the recording of the podcast. For this recording, Carly Kalish, Executive Director of Victim Services Durham Region, joined Alma and Sukaina Jamil, Alma Latina’s Reporter and Content Editor, to talk about violence in our cities, increasing gun violence, mental health issues, human trafficking and the role both organizations play in finding ways to heal as a community. It was also very interesting to hear the important role volunteers play in the expanded outreach and success of these organizations. Welcome to Podcasting, the Alma Latina way!
